First of all, these collards were really excellent– about the best ever. Red-pepper bite and sweet, too (vinegar?), and not chopped up but almost whole-leaf. The succotash was very nice: a little bacon grease, I think, red onion, mushy butterbeans and grape tomatoes. Those faincy buttered green beans really have no business on a respectable veggie plate. The okra was nice to look at — sliced lengthwise down the middle — but nothing special to eat.
Basket of biscuits and corn muffins on the table, the way it should be. I didn’t try the biscuits, but the corn muffins were pretty much perfect: sweet but not cakey, and moist enough not to need butter without being greasy. I’d put ’em up against Busy Bee and am not sure which would win.
